Improving Cancer Survival

As part of a national drive to improve cancer survival we are looking to find people who may be at an increased risk of developing certain cancers.

Lynch Syndrome is a rare condition that runs in families and puts people at an increased risk of developing a cancer. Most people with this are undiagnosed therefore we are taking the proactive step of contacting our patients with the aim of identifying those at risk.

Diagnosed patients are prescribed high dose aspirin which can prevent up to 50% of cancers associated with this condition and they are enrolled in regular surveillance programmes aimed at diagnosis cancers at an early and curable stage.

We are interested in talking to patients who think the criteria below applies to them, if this is you it is important to read this Patient Information Leaflet and complete this family history form. Please return the form to the surgery by either email or in hard copy.

We would encourage you to contact the practice if the following applies to you:

≥ 3 relatives with a cancer AND

two of these involving ≥ 2 generations AND

≥ 1 case diagnosed before the age of 50

AND/OR IF

You or a first-degree family member have had a colon or endometrial cancer under the age of 70yr and since 1990.

These cancers must be one of the following:

Colorectal , Ovarian, Uterine , Renal , Ureter , Small Bowel, Pancreatic, Gastric , Hepatobiliary, Glioblastoma or Sebaceous Adenoma, Sebaceous Epithelioma, Keratoacanthoma, Sebaceous Carcinoma
